Heart failure is a condition that develops when your heart is unable to pump enough blood around the body properly. When your heart has less pumping power, there is an increase in pressure in the heart and lungs, fluid may build up in or around your lungs and causing congestion and making it hard to breathe during activities or even when at rest. Heart failure may not cause symptoms right away. But eventually, you may feel tired, short of breath and notice fluid buildup in your lower body, around your stomach, or your neck.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), also referred to as diastolic heart failure, causes almost one-half of the 5 million cases of heart failure in the United States and continues to increase in the developed world.
HFpEF is a clinical syndrome in which patients have signs and symptoms of Heart failure as the result of high left ventricular (LV) filling pressure despite normal or near normal LV ejection fraction (LVEF; ≥50 percent). It is more common among older patients and women and can be measured by echocardiography or cardiac catheterization.
The first step in the diagnosis of HFpEF is recognition of possible heart failure and subsequent referral for two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to confirm the diagnosis. The diagnosis of HFpEF requires clinical symptoms and/or signs of heart failure, as well as evidence of preserved LVEF and diastolic dysfunction.
Hypertension hyperlipidemia, older age, female sex, diabetes, smoking, obstructive, sleep apnea, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and sedentary lifestyle have been identified as important risk factors for diverse types of heart disease, including HFpEF.
People who have heart failure may have the following symptoms

- Bluish color of finger and lips
- Sleepiness and trouble concentrating
- Inability to sleep lying flat
The Harmony™ System
Implanted Unit
This "stent-like" unit delivers electrical stimulation to the aorta's inner wall.
Wearable Unit
This external unit powers and communicates the the implant during neuromodulation therapy.
Physician Unit
This unit enables wireless communication with the implant, to set the stimulation regime, and enables physicians to adjust therapy according to each patient's needs
